Ridley Scott and Fox reportedly struggling with Prometheus 2

$

Not sure if this has been posted. If it's true, my mind is blown, because, how do you make the movie you just made, and then basically say to everyone, 'yeah, we don't know either'?

http://www.inquisitr.com/591860/ridley-scott-struggles-to-continue-prometheus-franchise/

IsPrometheus 2 doomed? Fortunately or unfortunately depending on who you ask, this might be the case. Director Ridley Scott, who’s famous for the Alien films is said to be in a bit of a binder with the sequel, which is said to explain just how aliens took over our world.

According to reports both Ridley Scott and Fox have no idea how to continue on with the series. Prometheus, which acts as a prequel to the Alien franchise, was planned on becoming its separate trilogy, but now that Scott and Fox are in a blunder on how to continue on, it doesn’t look like we will find an audience on how Aliens came to be anytime soon.

However this may not upset people. Prometheus didn’t satisfy everyone. Audiences were torn while critics fought for or against the film. The talk about how the film faired all led up to writer Damon Lindelof’s exiting from the franchise. This left Scott to figure out the next steps for Prometheus 2.

In the beginning the promise of a sequel seemed sweet. Star Noomi Rapace was set to return and as of last month said the film had a script and that the said script was “incredible.” So what happened? Was that just talk? We may not know whether or not that was just Rapace’s enthusiasm or just her way of building up height.

What we do know is that months after Prometheus hit theaters, Fox executives were running around trying to get a solid idea on a script for Prometheus 2, and it doesn’t look like they have come up with anything yet. According to a source Fox has been taking meetings with “basically anyone” who could solve this conundrum for Prometheus 2.

It’s a wonder why Fox is even going forward with a Prometheus trilogy seeing as it failed to satisfy critics and fans.

I foresee a watershed in Prometheus inspired scripts. This is what in fact may be its greatest legacy.

Here is part of one to get things started;

"The Experiment"

OP: "We have a candidate, I repeat we have a candidate."
OP: "8 billion standard model cycles. Not bad. It is improving."
OP: "1 billion model cycles. Single celled. No genetic fault detected. Report to headquarters to up the temporal resolution - this is a test worth running properly."
OP: "Ok I am seeing floral growth, reptilian - they won't last long. Unstable. But we need those feathers."
...
DV: "I hear the version updates are running smoothly".
The dark voice echoes from behind the control panel.
OP: "Perfectly my lord."
DV: "Another data dump is expected. You know that."
OP: "It's protocol."
OP: "Divergence is complete - the sapiens fight it out."
DV: "13.8. Mmm. Very good."
OP: "And they are intelligent also - tools at +100k."
DV: "Symbolism at +280k"
OP: "Yes - isn't it amazing."
DV: "When do they start to agricularise?"
OP: "What? What do you mean? Wait - I am seeing war."
DV: "Extreme self awareness, very concerned for their ego."
DV: "Prerequisite for a match. Compatibility follows this batch."
OP: "What in luck's name are they doing? Structural suicide. They will have depleted their resources."
OP: "Should I terminate the run?"
DV: "Amuse us this time - take a snapshot for general management."
OP: "You know that isn't allowed sir. A security brea..."
DV: "The seat of consciousness is the priority - protect the project. We have a stable vessel."
OP: "But it is not finished. There are at least another 10--18 fundamental constant adjustments to be made. The iterations need verification - there could, will, be anomalies, defects...
The superior's glare is ominous.
OP: "Ah but they, it... still needs to sleep."
DV: "An evolutionary byproduct - we can deal with it later."

The Conference ends;
J: "I am not expecting them to publish the entire proceedings."
F: "Proceedings?" - "More like aftermath."
J: "An anisotropy in the extreme cosmic ray background was postulated as indicative of simulation.."
F: "Saint Silas? A far cry from empiricalism - try reading me those Italian speed of light measurements again why don't you."
J: "We have direct measurements in gamma."
F: "There are a thousand alternatives here. A local density variation for heavens sake - if you must. Don't ruin your career on metaphysics".
The warning was kind advice from a friend. They had presented their work at last - of course leaving out the said implications. But they had heard the chatter, and felt the distrust.

The team of scientists retires;
J: "I say we take them on."
V: "How on earth do you plan that?"
J: "We should formulate a virus. We know the incept frequency, the grid resolution, and it appears to be increasing. Their system expects us to converge."
V: "And what good does that do us? It won't be long before the signal goes under the noise level."
J: "Yes. I don't think we will get another chance to convince the community. 1 year left perhaps. Damn that 5 sigma.."
V: "Oh I see it - they will run a.. a "trace". But in how long?"
John feels proud of Vakalier's logical inference.
J: "Assuming it's linear - 8 years, give or take. But one can't rule out a piece wise decrement or asymptotic.. - hell it could even be arbitrary. But it is definitely showing a long term decrease-"
V: "What is the latest from your collea.. ah PhD student?"
J: "Her quasar remodeling supports a grid resolution 1/10000th any of our current estimates - it is surprising anything made it through galactic evolution. Still - it was definitely not a changing fine structure constant we have all been chasing, but a less precise application of the constant. Yet we only have 50 years of solid data to go on-- anything could have happened since those early universe fireworks lit up the sky."

The following day;
They both receive the augmented RSS feed. A transparent scene shines up before them, overlaid against the plastic interior of the metro carriage:
"Mass protests in Ireland - people have started working. This tweet was brought to you by.." The system goes mute.
J: "At least the media appears to have taken what we said enthusiastically."
V: "Sensationalism."
J: "It's mostly light hearted."
V: "And the theocrats have gone nuts."
J: "They might actually be right this time."
V: "To what end? They will burn as well as anyone else."

---

GM: "The sample is complete."
DV: "Yes, outstanding conscious awareness - well over 50% of the time operative."
GM: "But they still have their subconscious heritage, and seem to have developed unorthodox methods of dealing with this discrepancy."
DV: "Their rituals have been defeated - not a single soul extracted maintains such faith."
GM: "A new world may stir up trouble, memories."
DV: "We will retain the drug, my lord."

---

The basement;
J: "Something is not right."
V: "Perhaps we were wrong."
J: "It can't have just vanished."
Vakalier does not seem to care.
V: "Have you ever thought about why they would want us."
J: "It matters not why."
V: "What do humans do best?"
J: "Love I suppose."
V: She laughs - "no, we are notoriously bad at that, don't you Think?"
John looks confused, then smiles.
J: "Algorithmic purposes? Then why the soul?"
V: "I am not sure they knew how to make a decent enough computer without one."
V: "Besides, it could be used for transferral purposes - to create a mirror image of itself - like DNA."
The rhythmic spectacle of ambient LEDs appears almost hypnotising.
J: "What use is it philosophising over theory based on data we no longer have, and wouldn't be able to publish anyway. Our sentiments were outlawed 12 months ago".
The darkened server room ignores them. Their makeshift laboratory continues to flash but in an obviously more asynchronous manner than before. Its hypercolours fade...
V: "The archives are complete."

---

GM: "Their science is progressing."
DV: "At the expected pace, my lord?"
GM: "And they seem to have started to invent - anything useful?"
DV: "Nothing undiscovered yet my lord. Although we have some good data. There are some abstract problems being tackled - intelligent solutions are being offered".
GM: "I wish they wouldn't waste their time on medicine. They know they can't live forever."
DV: "They need to believe such."
GM: "And art."
DV: "Their culture is normalising rapidly."
GM: "I hear this present model is not immune from the third world threat - one of their kind has given them sacrilegious ideas."
DV: "Their prophets have been demoralised, my lord - banished from the elite."
GM: "Don't be so confident. It was proposed by science, to science - it had escaped mainstream external thought completely."
DV: "Perhaps you suggest that we eliminate them?"
GM: "No, intervention is messy business - it just leaves greater gaps for future generations to discover. These are exactly the minds we are after."
DV: "I will make a note that we should consider recycling the parameters, the initial conditions."
GM: "Yes. Our liberalism in this regard will help justify our choice. We wouldn't want them to think that we are holding on to a mistake."
DV: "Affirmative."
GM: "And prep those automaton."

The Nature of the Engineer's Bio-Suits

$

One thing that really stood out to me was how the Engineers are the beginning are wearing very primitive loincloth and robes, while the Engineers we see on LV-223 all have this bio-suit that evidently is fused with their body, as in they don't just take it on and off. Obviously there's no answer at this time, but I feel like the nature of this suit is key to understanding the motivations of the Engineer race, and might account for the difference in temperament between the more benevolent Engineers at the beginning with the aggressive one we see at the end.

Does anyone think the voice of the medpod is quite aloof and standoffish? I dont know why but it sets my teeth on edge every time i hear her voice. Its beyond matronly and crosses over into something else entirely.

I just saw this size chart with the Engineer and Trilobite, it looks correct but then I'm not sure. I have provided the pic, it is the only one I found, does anybody have or made or seen another Size Chart with the Engineer, Trilobite, possibly the other Engineers, Space Jockey, many Xenomorphs, Predators and other creatures of the saga or perhaps from other franchises/stories in a large chart? This one is pretty good and having a fascination with large people, creatures, and monsters I would love to see more if it is possible!

David 8: A cautionary Tale

$
0
0

So, i would like to dedicate this thread to studying and
discussing what is it that makes David, such an interesting character. He is
very much unlike anything previousl created in the “Alien” universe, or maybe
even in cinematic history. What makes him tick? Does he feel human emotions?
Does he feel any emotions? Is he man or machine?

 More human...than human?

So a person who is acquainted with the Alien franchise can
tell you how Ash or Bishop were only following mission protocols from their
superiors. David is also programmed this way, but David is gifted with
anincredible curiosity and a devilish sense of superiority (maybe a gift from
his human programmer, weyland himself).

Have you ever noticed how every robot in every movie thrives
to be human and feel human emotions? 2001, I robot, AI, etc...

David does NOT follow this trend. He is a happy robot,
completely satisfied with being synthetic. If anythhing, he feels that humans
are inferior to him in every sense of the word. You can sense his disdain for
humans in every line spoken by him, in every hint of sarcasm in his voice.

And that is what makes him so dangerous. He is not fighting
to be human, he is fighting to eradicate humans. He is a slave and we are his
masters. He could be responsible for our fall.
image

The Trick...is not minding it hurts!
So why is David, a vain and proud robot, so obsessed with
Lawrence of Arabia? And why does this line seem so relevant for him?

First we should remember that David “fell in love” with a
romanticised version of Lawrence, interpretated by Peter o’Toole, not the real
lawrence. So historical significance is put aside.

Characters in movies are supposed to be relatable and what
he sees in Lawrence is a brilliant adventurer in a strange land surrounded with
strangers.
But i think it even goes a bit deeper than that. The line:
“The trick is not minding it hurts” lifted straight from the movie, shows us
how Lawrence was supperior to William Potter by shying away from his emotions,
by turning them off. He knows that it hurts, but he chooses to ignore that
feeling. I think, David idolises and romanticises that idea. That a human is
supperior by being able to turn off his human emotions, becoming something more
than human. David believes he has achieved that right, that stage where he is
something more than human. He doesn’t feel human emotions, he is the ultimate
version of Lawrence.

So, what does David want? He expresses this in the movie. “Don’t all children want their parents dead?”By parents, he means mankind. He wants to be free from the shackles that bind him and make him a servant to a lesser kind. BY killing Weyland he has freed himself of the first pair of shackles, but mankind still revels in their position of power. David seeks power, David wants power. He is a cautionary tale, because maybe robots, don’t want to be human after all. Our fiction always come to that point were robots want to feel human, and that is when everything comes apart….but what if, they just do not want to be human? What if they refuse to be human, but just hate us all the same? What if by making a robot….too robotic….we are building something that is way too far from human and far from mercy and compassion. Wouldn’t that even be worse?Funny enough, David shares some human traits, such as vanity and pride. But maybe you just don’t need to be human to feel pride.

Feel free to add anything to the topic!  :)

Is the Deacon the Alien Queen or Not?

People are saying that the Deacon from Prometheus evolves or something into a Alien Xenomorph Queen. Like because of it's head shape. So the question is what do you think?

Do Engineer's eat? organic food?

I've never seen a discussion about this.. so what do you think?
Is Shaw in for the most delicious banquet halls, food courts, and buffets of her life?

Food aboard the Prometheus and in the Alien universe seems pretty prepackaged and gross

Engineer's language and voice?

Not sure if anyone posted this nor thought about it but after all this time it just occurred to Me I wonder what kind of language(s) they speak/spoke? I know David spoke to the Last Engineer and apparently he understand stood him but did they have multi-languages or maybe only 1 since they didn't seem so diverse as to humans are. I also wonder if they had accents as well? Your thoughts please:)

Can someone tell me what this is?

Rafe (Milburn) does his best to explain 'that' scene…

“I'm going to clear this up once and for all,” he told Digital Spy.

“My character is a biologist, and there was a big scene that was cut,
which was me discovering life [on the planet] for the first time. I
find one of the baby snakes. The big snake is quite scary, but I find
his little brother.

“And I'm like 'this is extraordinary, this is me as a biologist
finding life in space for the first time', and I'm really excited.

“You know how David Attenborough gets up close to animals, it was
that sort of thing. So I then see the big snake, and think 'this is even
better than the small snake!' And I think that snake is not scary,
because I've seen the small snake, and he's not scary.

“So that's why. It was logical. But the scene was cut, what can you do.”

So there we have it... Millburn was just excited to see a big terrifying alien snake. Makes sense...

Prometheus nearly 1 year on...

$

I watched Prometheus last night with my cousin.  She had never heard of the film, nor had any experience with the Alien franchise.  I was very keen to hear what she would think about the film.

I had to say, for myself at least, I found the film refreshing having given it some distance from my original viewings last year.  The pacing didn't bother me anymore, confusion was gone, and overall I enjoyed it a lot more than I ever did.

My cousin, whom I warned about all the controversey that the film caused, had few questions, and really enjoyed the film, given that  sci fi wasn't really "her thing".  She thought the plot worked well, and her biggest gripe was that the space suits they wore were just crap, in that they burn too well and don't carry a lot of oxygen.

As an experiment, I did a little edit of the film for her, and didn't show her the waterfall scene at the start, a scene I've always had a problem with being at the start.  When I showed her it after the credits, her reaction was "what was the point of that?".

Has anyone else watched the film lately and enjoyed it more?  I can think of it more as a stand alone film now than I ever did, and it seems quite obvious to me now that Ridley had not watched Alien for a very long time.

What would have happened if they froze Shaw?

I always imagined that she knew the nature of the company.
That she would be packaged, dissected, and vivisected by other scientists to study the creature with no regard for her.
