Prometheus DOOM 3

Hello everyone, I am the author and creator of a game mod of prometheus for the doom 3 game.

I have a moddb page setup with some screenshots and videos on youtube of some of the progress I have made so far.

I'm curious to know if anyone is really interested in my work in making this. I'd like to know if there are any 3d modellers out there that might like to contribute to this project as I'm only a one man operation building EVERYTHING, and it's a real handfull, more than I thought when I first started this project. I'm probably not saying everything I want to say here, but I do want to get the communitys input and feedback.

I know the mod is not an exact replica, then it would be too predictable, I still like to have some elements not explored but a possibility.

however I am recreating most of it closely as I can.....so much still to do and make.

for now, I'd thought I'd introduce myself and say hello and show some of my work on the mod so far. and discuss this with everyone, thanks !

and if you'd like to see the moddb page you can see that here:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/prometheus-doom-3-movie-mod

and some videos on my youtube channel:

Comments opinions ,suggestions, I'd like to hear what on your mind about my PD3 project, Thanks Everyone! looking forward to your thoughts and perspectives.

Why was some ppl's reaction against Prometheus so intense?

apologies if this has been explored already in a thread; a cursory search didn't bring anything up.

Just came from youtube and Happy Birthday David
, reviewing replies to replies i made.  The haters get incredibly abusive.  They are really hurting. Why IS that?  I've already commented elsewhere, but here's one more thought, quoting self from aforementioned youtube comments;

"Prometheus is much more the descendent of Blade Runner than of the Alien films, conceptually.  That's why it doesn't behave like an Alien film and why it disappoints Alien fans. There's more to this than 'plot holes' etc. Maybe the Alien isn't enough of a protagonist for ppl who love to get up close and personal with it.  They needed those slavering jaws and that malign consciousness to underpin everything. And the absence of that felt like bereavement."

interested in what everyone thinks about this.  it's something the director has surely been sussing out.

Did Prometheus Have Test Screenings?

And if so, is there any information on what the test screen audiences thought?

Like, don't studios conduct test screenings to check on things?

Like if something in the plot is unclear or whatever, then the director may opt to go back and add/remove/change something?

The Engineers seeded many planets right?

So where are all of these other lifeforms?

Also how did they seed them? Presumably in the same way as the sacrifice engineer. So that implies that there should be human life on other planets as well.

The Flying Mice:

Ridley
Scott originally wanted to have small flying objects that would fly up
and down corridors and fix any problems.  These flying objects were to
be called 'Mice'.

image

I wanted to have small flying objects, like sensors, which flew up
and down the corridors.  They would find a problem, stop by a computer
bank and fix it like little handymen.  I wanted to call them 'Mice'.  At
the beginning of the film they would be the only things that were alive
on the ship.  We'd have shot a long empty corridor so you'd hear them
coming before you actually saw them.  Then WHOOSH!  It would pass by the
camera, going through the corridor.  I think FOX felt it was too much
int he direction of SF, and we dropped it.

Could the green crystal we see in Prometheus have any relationship to an alien egg with a queen in it?

Carlos Huante's Notes from Prometheus - Really Cool Read

Big props to wmmvrrvrrmm at AVPG - I have spent lots of time reading his site in the past and he put up a new article on Carlos Haunte recently that helps explain what they were going for in Prometheus.  He refers to the hammerpede as another experiment and talks about Engineers controlling their tech on a molecular level.  Even annotates the Engineers as angels in his notes!  If you have not been to his site before then you should look around after reading this article!!

The Russian who made trailer #2 saw a longer cut.

Remember the guy who made the second trailer for the movie ? He talked a few times about how he made it etc...
...And he used shots that are not in the final cut. So what does that mean ?
Yeah there was a longer cut with a lot more stuff... like the cup near the mural, original Fifield scene etc...

I'm not bringing anything new here, just thought that some peoples would like to know that... a longer cut existed...before ridley and his editor decided to cut a lot of things for no real artistic reason imo :(

We still believe that Alien and Prometheus takes place on the same planet.

There have been a couple of threads on this forum where people ask "In Alien the Space Jockey is in his chair, but in Prometheus he's in the..."
"How come?"

This made me think about the general audience for this movie. A lot of people have probably gone in with the mindset that it is a prequel of sorts. How many did really care about what the planets names are in the first place (not asking you, you know what I mean). Most people could probably not put the planets LV223 and LV426 into the right movies.

So the question is: How much of the audience do still believe that the movies (Alien/Prometheus) takes place on the same planet and that the Xeno at the end of Prometheus is the first Alien ("Queen") who makes the eggs shown in Alien? That it's the same Space Jockey etc...

My guess? 80%. Too much? 50%?

What could they have done to ensure that people would not make that mistake? Is there something the makers could have done differently? The names LV223 and LV426 are maybe to much alike?

They maybe could have named one LVcutekittenplanet? LVthisisnotalien? LVdamnthosesnakesarenasty?

So in conclusion, how many percent of the general audience do you think still believes that Prometheus and Alien takes place on the same planet and was there something they could have done to differentiate them more?

Unscorched engineer clip

I've been working in an edit from the movie, nothing fancy really, just adding the deleted scenes, as well  doing some color correction, and minor adjustments, adding music to some scenes, cleaning the audio a little bit (think the audio in some scenes wasn't dubbed)  and it´s almost finished.

Here is a clip of the fight between Shaw and the Engineer. I tried my best to remove the scorched face and think that´s now watchable altogether the deleted scene.

What do you guys think? Maybe somebody can model the engineer's head in 3ds max and share it and probably could make the scene perfect.

Don't know if this has been raised yet, (if so feel free to redirect me), but was wonderin what Fifields tats could mean.

Side of the head looks kinda like a bar code, and amusingly it looks like he has the word POO above his left eye. Thoughts?

Were the characters in prometheus more interesting then the one's in alien?

Personally I thought the characters in prometheus were more interesting then the characters in alien and there psychology told through clever subtlety, I always felt that the scene with milburn and fifield and I want to make money was to do with the forging of social groups. Milburn gravitated to fifiled because they were both a bunch of sad cases, you know like the sad cases you got at school who couldn’t make friends. I also found it clever that fifield obviously over compensated with his absolute cowardice by covering himself in tattoos and coming off as unapproachable probably a ridley scott idea at least a visual one. I’m guessing fifield was perhaps bullied when he was younger, maybe this is a form of that goth shit. When I saw the movie I just saw them as the social outcasts. But the characters portrayal’s were perhaps to subtle, for instance everyone thinks charlie is an asshole and yet he was the only guy who knew david was a cock. But people say ahhh poor david look at how charlie keeps bullying him, charlie knew he was a cock that's why, it's just a shame he trusted him too much and underestimated him. I think all of this stuff is very clever but perhaps to subtle and can be missed. The whole why did fifield get lost?, well because he's an idiot, why would weyland hire idiots?, well it was vickers, okay so why did vickers hire idiots?. All is made clear in the briefing scene when weyland says david is the son i never had and then we cut to charlize theron and that look on her face, and then we have the scene towards the end when she is looking for her fathers acceptance because she knew he was going to die down there she even says that, hence the tear when he says anything else and pulls his hand away, she sabotaged a mission that she thought was crazy, and what was it? it was one man looking for immortality because he was such a megalomaniac. To me the film is very interesting in this respect.

Holloway, "After you..."

Why does Holloway say "After you", letting his lady walk into the alien pyramid first?

Usually films do this as a movie trope, where the guy is too scared to enter so he plays off the "gentleman" card to have the woman enter into the scary place first..with a wink and a nod. Having the female character hit the male, and then walking into said situation bravely.

But he seemed to be doing it out of politeness here rather than as a joke. Was it some right of passage? Like an honor to be the first one to enter? It's always struck me off. His noncliché way of using the cliché line...

My Alien/Prometheus inspired song.

This started off as an industrial-rock kinda song, but I teamed up with a friend and she remixed it. Now it's... well, I found it hard to list it under one genre. It doesn't really have the same atmosphere as the movies, and that was my intention. Wanted to do something else. It's got a lot of stop/start sections to symbolize what it's like to fight a lurker alien... and some eerie ambient sections where you're unsure if you're in danger or not.

There's some samples of Xeno sounds in there (and the Queen Xeno hiss)... try to find them! ;)

Any thoughts, comments, critiques, etc. would be appreciated! :)

Was prometheus that good? or was it as stupid as the people who don't like it say?

In this thread i will compare alien and its plot points to aliens and it's plot points and then the same with prometheus in order to contrast the films and ask was prometheus that bad?

Also for the defenders of each movie if you want to answer any of the questions or give your opinions then feel free to do so.

Now feel free to quote which ever questions you want to answer, but every movie has problems and is not beyond scrutiny but it would appear prometheus is the only movie that suffers of the three so lets analyse it and ask if it really is as bad as the people who hate it say

A better Prometheus?

With all the discussion about the things that might have been improved in the film recently - I thought we could try and put our money where our mouths are. What would you do to improve it? What would you change?

keeping the basic building blocks of the film, see what you come up with, or just comment on parts that could be done better. I'll start with a quickly written version of how I thought the plot might have played to be more pleasing - of course this is entirely subjective. It's like a wish list for the tone that I was hoping for.

Prometheus in Space
David on Prometheus – obviously synthetic. Make him seem spooky to create unease. He does not have a hidden agenda – too cliché now. But he acts quirky and robotic. Main point as a character is to explain things about the engineers.

Crew woken – keep crew simple, cut Weyland subplot – he exists only as backstory and motivation for Vickers.

Shaw – character who believes there is a greater power in the universe, that the creation of life is by design and not chance. Not a traditional Christian god, as such, though she keeps a cross in memory of her father who taught her about faith. She also can’t have children.

Holloway – archaeologist who loves Shaw. No need to overcomplicate him with an opposing POV to hers on creation and faith. He believes in her, plain and simple. Would do anything for her but knows he can’t fulfil her.

Fifield – geologist, wuss and bully. Believes in pay check, not much else. No need to change him that much. Remove the pot smoking – not really professional for a trillion dollar mission to find the answers to human existence.

Milburn – biologist who believes fully in science. Finds it hard to make friends. No need to change him that much either.

Vickers – Queen bitch of Prometheus. Knows it is expensive mission. Wants to succeed because it was her father’s dream to discover intelligent life. Driven for a result.

Ford – crew doctor. Mostly in it for pay check. Religious but doesn’t really want to meet her maker before she is dead.

Janek, Chance and Ravel – as is. Flight crew. No scientific or religious affiliations of note, there to fly ship and assist Vickers with mission security.

No hidden characters. No need. No extra random security guys either – flight crew can fill that role.

Crew on Prometheus – character development and tension building.
Different characters should occupy a clear space in science vs religion and logic vs faith arguments.
There should be a lot of discussion about where humans come from and what the engineers have to do with us. Use the logic of Spaiths script, whereby the engineer visitations were to advance us and not seed us. Have the question of how they advance us hang in the air as a question.

Land on planet – do not name planet. Never name planet.

First exploration – find worms, engineer bodies and headless engineer. They do not open their helmets at any time, even though they note the atmosphere is breathable.
Dead engineers scare the willies out of science driven characters like Fifield and Milburn – because they are obviously humanoid. It throws their whole core beliefs about human life evolving on Earth.

Revitalise engineer head – note it is infected. David theorises that the engineers create by sacrificing their own bodies. He believes this is done with the goo. Sometimes in order to create, you must first destroy. He also believes the engineers were planning a revisitation to Earth but something went wrong – though is not certain what.

Vickers tells David they have to return with something more than gods that made a mistake and he should explore the temple more. David explores and finds hibernating engineer. He returns to ship and after discussion Vickers agrees to wake engineer. David says he will offer the engineer an ampule, to show that they understand their technology a little.

Second exploration – wake engineer. Engineer is full 10ft tall. Observes humans wordlessly. Fifield pisses his pants and runs off, Milburn follows him. Shaw stands in adoration, Holloway is smiling because Shaw looks fulfilled. Ford and Vickers obviously nervous. David holding ampule. Holloway opens helmet, saying to Shaw, “Our creators should be able to see us.”
Engineer is oblivious to crew, walks to David, rips off his head and takes ampule. Engineer then drinks goo. Sacrifice engineer effects used here. Engineer body breaks down and tiny molecules are released. This should be the equivalent of the chestbuster – if the mystery and awe of the engineer is built up enough, seeing a god destroy itself mid-point in the film should be shocking.
Ford and Vickers run. Shaw starts crying. Holloway tries to comfort Shaw and get her to leave, during which he swallows engineer molecules.

Fifield and Milburn lost. Encounter big worm affected by Engineer molecules. Fifield acts like a total wuss, Milburn tries to be reassuring. Big worm jumps Milburn and scene can play out similar to normal, instead smashing Fifield helmet and engineer molecules being swallowed.

Back on Prometheus Shaw is still upset. Holloway tries to comfort her – at least we know how they create life or something. Holloway notes he feels different, refreshed, or reborn since the experience. Shaw all sad, cannot create life. Holloway says she is his life, or something similar and they make love.

Vickers telling Janek they have to leave, something is wrong. Janek says they can’t go without Fifield and Milburn. Is getting life signs from Fifield but not Milburn. Storm comes in and they agree to retrieve Fifield next morning.

In morning Holloway sees something in eye and knows he is changing. Shaw wakes and feels sick, goes to see Ford. Shaw is pregnant and foetus gestating at rapid rate. Wants it removed, something is wrong. Ford contacts Vickers.

Vickers says to put Shaw in hibernation; her baby may be the only thing they have gained from the ill-fated trip. She is going to get Fifield with Janek and then they are leaving.

Vickers, Janek, Chance and Ravel find Fifield changed – similar to big head proto-morph Fifield design. Fifield kills Chance & Ravel. Janek try to shoot Fifield but he moves too fast – so they run back to ship – we are leaving. Fifield lopes after them.

Shaw escapes Ford, runs to medpod. Births cuddles. Is rightly disgusted and wants to kill cuddles. Locks cuddles in medpod and is about to destroy it when Holloway enters. Holloway has become a proto morph also and Shaw runs away.

Vickers and Janek meet Shaw and Ford on Prometheus. Shaw explains that Holloway has changed and is in the medpod room with the thing that came out of her. Vickers determines to destroy them both and leave. Ford goes with Vickers, Janek and Shaw go to prepare ship for launch.

Fifield gets aboard Prometheus.

On entering medpod room Vickers and Ford cannot see Holloway but can see cuddles is laying something. They go to torch cuddles and Holloway attacks, killing Ford and knocking Vickers out.

Fifield finds Janek and Shaw in flight deck. Janek fights with Fifield, using some kind of weapon. Shaw runs off in fear. Fifield gets over Janek and Janek stabs him, though blood that is turning acidic drips onto Janek and kills him.

Holloway finds Shaw. He is barely human now. He drags Shaw to medpod room. In medpod room Shaw can see that cuddles has grown and made egg sacks from Ford’s body. One of the egg sacks is open. Vickers lies on the floor, a facehugger looking thing curled up dead next to her and a hole in her chest. As Holloway holds Shaw, an egg sack opens in front of her and David’s words echo in her head – sometimes in order to create, you must first destroy.
