So, there is this whole undertone in prometheus about the massive slaughter of the engineers we see on lv-223 being caused by a huge ammount of engineers actually commiting suicide.
We have a deleted scene where Shaw wonders if the engineer tried to kill himself with that door on purpose
and in lindelof's paradise script, there is a portion when Shaw is running from the final engineer and sees the holograms of the dead engineers jumping to their death on those holes we see on the ground.
The huge group encountered by fifield also seems to represent that. (have they fallen from above and landed in that pile?)
Is it ritualistic? Are they dedicating and offering their lives to gods?
Or is it because they are suffering? Because they can't handle the infection that has been set loose?
What are your thoughts on this? It seems like most of the crew decided to take their own lives. But then why did that last engineer, get himself to sleep? Was he the only one not infected?
