I believe this statement and quote has an undercurrent that is meant to be taken literally and applied to the context of the film and our everyday lives.
In the film we are searching for our creators but we didn't really find anything apart from that our DNA is a 99.99% match. That doesn't mean we are created by them. I also believe the opening sacrificial sequence may not be of Earth, but looking at how rocky it is, it brings up visions of how Earth would have loooked once the surface temperature has cooled enough to form rock.
"Not minding it hurts", perhaps; dont mind the pain of finding out that our creators only created because they could. Or, dont mind the emotional pain that we will never meet our creators.
