The relationship between Prometheus and Alien is a connection that no matter how much I want to ignore I just simply can't. No matter how much of a 'distant prequel' Prometheus is and no matter how many 'strands of DNA' of particulary the first and to a lesser extent the second movies of the franchise it has (the phrase 'building better worlds' was lifted from Cameron's ALIENS if i'm not mistaken) I can't help but link all the movies together. When I look at the Deacon's head ripping the Space Jockey's chest wide open I wonder 'why in Alien does it look like a traditional chestburster has burst it's way out of the engineer's ribcage instead of the Deacon shape'? Also, it took a massively overgrown squid to overpower the Engineer in Prometheus when in the original Alien it looked as though a normal sized facehugger had attacked the Space Jockey. All of these continuity issues lead me to my main question.
Judging by both Alien and Prometheus does anyone think that the original threat of the xenomorph looks somewhat diminished when compared to the events in Prometheus, particularly the Engineer's strengh and brutal agression? As an audience we're led to believe by the mural in Prometheus that the Alien is revered as a perfect creation and the ultimate bioweapon and yet comparing the orginal Xenomorph to the Engineer I just don't believe that the Alien would be all that threatning to the Engineer. In fact my money would be firmly on the engineer if it came to a straight up fight.
My question to fans therefore would be is the orginal Alien all that powerful compared to the Engineer? and does the black goo render the eggs as somewhat pointless given that the black liquid seems a far more potent method of eliminating planetary lifeforms.
