One thing that has bothered me is the question why hasn't the distress signal from the Derelict on LV426 been picked up and answered by the Engineers?
If Weyland/Yutani were able to pick it up with their long-range scanners all the way from Earth, why haven't the Engineers from their own home world responded?
Is the bio-weapon THAT devastating, even to the Engineers, that they will go nowhere near a downed ship (LV426) or a compromised base (LV223) to eliminate even the slightest chance of an infection reaching their home planet?
OR is there noone left to respond? Is their homeworld dead or, at the very least, a war-ravaged planet where the Engineers have been all but consumed by their own creation a la Terminator/Matrix?
Guess this would be the basis of the Paradise sequel. Which would Ridley explore? The latter seems more like a Jim Cameron action-fest.
