So, let me get this straight, so we are all on the same page.
We can forgive:
- sound in space
- magical powers
- beings from Mars
- sunglasses that reveal aliens
- liquid robots
- ships going through hell
- catastrophic amounts of time travel
- Reviving Dinosaurs through amber
- monkeys ruling a planet
- aliens that can look like us
- The first president of the united states being a vampire hunter
- a being from another planet becoming a superhero
- a malfunctioning holodeck
- alternate dimensions
- people switching bodies
- Machines ruling the world
- Alien slums
- phasers, lightsabers, rings who can fire lasers
- "let's split up!"
- "Enhance"
- Jason in space
And we draw the line, when some scientists act a BIT less careful. Or when a biologist tries to examine an alien creature. Jesus, i had no idea the scientific community was so interested in RIdley Scott's Alien spin off to answer all of their questions. I guess they were really desperate.
Am i the only one who thinks all these excuses are all too convenient and a bit cynical. Especially from the guys who probably consider "Star trek" to be one of the most realistic things ever.
people will not like this movie: a) if they don't understand it.
b) if it's not their style
c) follow every reviewer's opinion like a good pet
And i think most people's problems are between a) and c).
Throwing lists of "plot holes", saying the movie sucks and saying that ridley scott betrayed us, does not make you smart, it makes you a douche.
Also saying that the movie lets itself open to a sequel is true, but saying it's an incomplete movie is not. The answers for this movie are staring us right in the face, and they have a basis in real religion and myths.
Now, what i was building to: Calling a science fiction movie "unrealistic" is like calling a documentary movie "too realistic". Fiction is in the title. In a genre known to be able to spawn such ridiculous plots and crazy ideas. It's a fertile space to let your imagination grow. If everything that matters to you, is that every single person is following a realistic pattern, then your not a science fiction fan, a simple science fan perhaps. "plot holes" are the perfect excuse, when one can't follow the meaning behind the story. They just follow every single line of dialogue and every act that might seem odd out of context.
And yes, i will go as far as to say that most people did not understand prometheus. How can i not, when i look at those long lists of flaws and plot holes that are adressed in the movie?
